社会とは何か？

アメリカは高校も大学も大変立派です。アメリカは教育を大切にしているし、子供たちを大変大切にしているという印象を受けました。

この問に対する答えには、次のようなものがある。
 
社会は有機的な全体であるとする立場（ヘーゲル）
社会は個人から構成されると考える立場（ホッブズ）
社会は行動から構成されると考える立場（パーソンズ）
社会はコミュニケーションから構成されると考える立場（ルーマン）
 
この問いに答えるためには、「社会」という語で何を指示するのかを、確定する必要がある。その指示対象ｘについて、「ｘは何か」と問い、それに対して「ｘは○○である」と答えたものが、上記の様々な答えである。上記のような答えを検討する前に、まず「社会」で何を指示するのかを、検討する必要があるだろう。
 
「社会とは何か？」に答えるには、その前に、「「社会」で何を指示するのか？」を問う必要がある。
