前回、自然的な死も社会的な死の区別とそれらが共にプロセスであることを説明しました。
さて、問題は、前々回に書いたように、
「「私は生きたい」が社会的な欲望であるならば、それと矛盾する「人間は死ぬ」の方も、自然的な死ではなく社会的な死ではないでしょうか？」でした。
この問いには、「はい、その通りです」と答えたいと思います。
その理由の一つとして、次の点を考えてみたいとおもいます。
もし、私の身体が不治の病になって、私の脳を他の身体に移植することになったとしましょう。そのとき、私はなおも生きています。もし私の脳も不治の病になって、私の脳の情報を全て、アトムのようなロボットの頭脳であるAIにコピーしたとしましょう。そのとき、私はロボットになってしまっていますが、まだ生きつづけているといえそうです。しかし、私の身体は脳も含めて、もはや生きていません。それゆえに、ここでは「自然的な死」は問題ではないのです。
さて、この説明は、本当に上の答えの理由になっているのでしょうか。
一ヵ月後には地球に大きな彗星がぶつかりそうで、ロボットになった私もそのときには、死んでしまうことになりそうだ、と仮定しましょう。これは私にとっての死の問題です。では、ロボットとしての私の死は、自然的な死ではないのでしょうか。私には、身体の死の場合と本質的な違いがないように思えます。
最初の問題設定が曖昧だったのでしょうか？
