週末に山荘にいって、帰ってから仕事に追われていました。
「自分の死に対してどのような態度をとるべきか」という問題における「自分の死」とは何でしょうか。それは「自分の人生が終わること」です。では、「自分の人生」とは何でしょうか。＜時間空間の中に広がる4次元連続体＞という理解もできます。＜各瞬間における実際に行われた選択と可能な選択肢の集合＞の集合、という理解も可能でしょう。これをどのように考えるのであれ、人生と言うのは、何事かの単なる時系列（クロニクル）なのではなくて、一つの物語構造を持つものとして理解することができるように思います。
このように考えるとき「自分の人生」が、決して生物としての人生、ロボットとしての人生のことでないことは明らかです。なぜなら、生物であること、ロボットであることは、物語構造を持たないからです。もちろん、私は、ある一匹の猫の生涯を物語ることができます。しかし、そのように物語られた猫の死は、生物としての猫の死ではないだろうとおもいます。したがって、「自分の人生」の終わりとしての「死」もまた、単なる生物としての死、単なるロボットとしての死ではありません。
従って、死にたいする態度の問題において、問題になっているのは、自然的な死ではなく、社会的な死だといえます。（これで証明したことにします。もちろん、反論を歓迎します。）
さて、次にまたテーゼのようなものを述べてみます。
我々は死を恐れるのですが、しかし生物としての死を恐れるのではありません。我々が恐れれるのは、物語の終わりです。普通は、物語の終わりを恐れますが、もし大往生であるならば、それは物語が非常によくできた仕方で終わりを迎えるのであって、不満はないということでしょう。しかし、物語が完結しない形で、望まない形で終わってしまうことを人は恐れるのではないでしょうか。あるいは、物語の望ましい終わり方が、自分でもわかっていないのに、終わりがやってくることを恐れるのではないでしょうか。
さて、このように死の問題を捉えることは、人生を物語（物語構造をもつもの）として捉えることを前提しています。この前提は、この問題にとっての必然的な前提なのでしょうか。つまり、人生を物語として捉えなければ、「自分の死に対してどのような態度をとるべきか」というような問題は成立しないのでしょうか。
次にこの問題を考えて見ましょう。
